"Appena ricevuta la convocazione ai Giochi ho provato un'emozione fortissima: sono traguardi veramente importanti e al tempo stesso punti di partenza per uno come me che fa atletica dal 2021 e si ritiene ancora un novellino rispetto ai miei compagni già affermati". La rinascita di Fabio Bottazzini, dopo l'incidente che lo ha portato sulla carrozzina, è avvenuta grazie allo sport: "Non mi sento affatto un eroe ma solo un ragazzo normalissimo che si è impegnato per raggiungere i suoi obiettivi e si sta allenando per consolidarli". La famiglia ha un ruolo importante, nella sua vita: "Se ci sono loro a guardarmi provo un'ansia particolare, anche se in realtà non mi hanno mai messo pressione". Nei momenti di difficoltà, trova ispirazione nelle foto dei tempi in cui era ricoverato in ospedale. "Ero in una condizione spaventosa e quando realizzo la realtà che vivo oggi, trovo la forza e la giusta consapevolezza per andare avanti". Mostrare la disabilità non è un problema, ma non mancano gli sguardi curiosi: "Indosso i pantaloncini corti senza problemi, ma mi accorgo di essere osservato. Per fortuna sempre meno, in ogni caso". Non ha particolari rituali pre-gara. Si concentra sulla tranquillità emotiva, perché il maggior rischio che corre è di farsi sovrastare dall’ansia.

Fabio Bottazzini's rebirth, after a moped accident at the age of 14 which resulted in the amputation of his left leg, came about thanks to sport: 'I don't feel like a hero at all, but just a very normal guy who has worked hard to achieve his goals and is training to consolidate them. Family plays an important role in his life: 'If they are there to watch me I feel a particular anxiety, even though they have never really put pressure on me’. In times of difficulty, he finds inspiration in photos from his time in hospital. 'I was in a frightening condition and when I compare it with my life as it is today, I find the strength and the right awareness to go on.' Showing the disability is not a problem, but there is no shortage of curious glances: 'I wear shorts with no problem, but I notice that people look at me. Fortunately, this happens less and less, anyway.' He has no particular pre-race rituals. He focuses on emotional tranquillity, because the greatest risk he runs is becoming overwhelmed by anxiety.
